Now that you've got the right people engaged to fix the problem there are probably a few other hundred people that need to know about it. Why not be proactive and notify the people who are impacted by an outage before they get the chance to call you?
Sending FYI alerts to managers, executives and stakeholders means you'll never hear, "Why didn't anyone tell me?" again. Let them know about situations as soon as they come up so they're always in the loop.
